Part 01
What a good profile actually does
A dating profile has three jobs, and only three. It shows a flash of personality, it says roughly what you’re after, and it hands the reader an easy reason to message you. Everything else is decoration. If your current effort doesn’t manage all three, it’s worth a rewrite, however long you spent on it.
Length matters less than you’d think. A handful of lively sentences usually beats a long essay, because people skim on their phones and decide quickly. Pair your words with a recent photo where your face is clear and you’re smiling, plus one that shows a bit more of your life — on a beach, in the garden, dressed up for a wedding.
Part 02
Mature female dating profile examples, from 50s to 70s
Four sample profiles for women, from mid-fifties to early seventies. Notice how differently they sound. That’s the whole point: there’s no correct voice, only yours.
- Example: her, 54, the cheeky one“Raised two sons, survived a kitchen extension and finally learned to say no to things I don’t fancy. What I do fancy: a man who can hold a conversation, laugh at himself and pick somewhere for lunch without making me choose. I live near Harrogate, swim in the sea when nobody’s looking and make a dangerous gin and tonic. Tell me the best thing you’ve eaten this year.”
- Example: her, 61, warm and direct“Retired teacher, so I can spot nonsense from across a room, but I’m told I’m lovely company once you’re past that. I adore the theatre, a proper roast and long drives with the radio up too loud. I’ve been single a while and I’m ready for some fun again — a regular date, or something a little more flirtatious. Make me laugh in your first message and you’re halfway there.”
- Example: her, 67, the playful one“Grandmother of five, keeper of one very spoilt cat and owner of far too many red shoes. I dance badly and often. I’m looking for a gentleman with a twinkle in his eye who won’t sulk when I beat him at Scrabble. Cheeky messages are very welcome; dull ones get marked in red pen.”
- Example: her, 73, quietly confident“Seventy-three, and nobody has told me to act my age yet, so I shan’t. I garden, I travel when I can and I still love being taken out to dinner by a man who dresses for it. I’m after good company, good conversation and a little bit of flirting. The rest we can discuss over a glass of something cold.”
Part 03
Mature male dating profile examples that don’t read like a CV
And four for the men. Not one of them opens with a job title, and none of them says ‘I’m not very good at this sort of thing’.
- Example: him, 52, the honest one“Divorced on good terms, with two grown-up kids who find it hilarious that I’m doing this. I work in logistics, so I can pack a car boot like nobody else. Weekends mean football, the allotment and a pint with whoever’s about. I’d love to meet a woman who enjoys a laugh and isn’t afraid to tease me back. So — what’s your idea of a perfect Saturday?”
- Example: him, 58, the cheeky one“Silver fox in training: the silver has arrived, I’m still working on the fox. I make a cracking curry, a decent bacon sandwich and the occasional bad decision. I know every word of more soul records than any grown man should. Looking for someone flirty and fun to share a few evenings with, and see where it leads. Extra points if you’ll dance in the kitchen.”
- Example: him, 66, warm and steady“Retired engineer, recently back on the scene after a long time out and enjoying it far more than I expected. I walk most mornings, read too many detective novels and bake a respectable scone. I’d like to meet a lady who loves conversation as much as I do, fancies the odd day out and doesn’t mind a man who still holds doors open.”
- Example: him, 71, the charmer“Seventy-one, all my own teeth and most of my own hair. I sail when the weather allows and grumble when it doesn’t. Young at heart, a shameless flirt and a very good listener, or so my sister claims. Looking for a woman with a wicked sense of humour who likes being made a fuss of. The first round is on me.”
Part 04
Why these dating profile examples over 50 get replies
Strip away the jokes and every one of these senior dating profile examples follows the same handful of rules. Steal the rules, not the sentences.
- Specific beats generalRed shoes, a cat with opinions, a car boot packed with military precision. Details like these stick in the memory and give people something to ask about, where ‘I enjoy travel’ gives them nothing.
- Humour does the heavy liftingA little self-mockery shows confidence without bragging. You don’t need to be a comedian; one wry line is plenty.
- They say what they wantA regular date, a flirt, something naughtier — each example hints at it plainly, so the right people reply and the wrong ones move on.
- They end with a hookA question or an invitation at the end makes replying effortless. Asking about the best thing someone ate this year is far easier to answer than a bare ‘say hi’.
- They’re honest about ageNobody pretends to be forty-five. Owning your age reads as confident, and the people who reply already like what they see.
- They stay upbeatNot a single bitter word about exes, past dates or people who play games. Warmth is attractive; grievances aren’t.
Part 05
What to leave out of your profile
The quickest way to improve most profiles is to delete things. Look for these and cut without mercy.
- A list of demands‘No time-wasters’, ‘must be tall’, ‘don’t bother if…’ — it reads as cross, and it puts off the nice people far more than the rude ones.
- The exWhether the split was friendly or dreadful, it belongs in conversation much later, if at all.
- Tired clichés‘Work hard, play hard’, ‘equally happy in jeans or dressed up’, ‘looking for my partner in crime’. If you’ve read it on a dozen profiles, don’t put it on yours.
- Anything explicitSave the saucy talk for private messages once you’ve both shown interest. A hint of mischief in a profile is flirty; spelling it all out isn’t.
- Personal detailsYour surname, workplace, street or phone number have no place on a profile. A username and your nearest town are all anyone needs at first.
- Photos that hide youSunglasses, group shots, pictures from a decade ago and close-ups of a fish you once caught. People want to see the face they’ll be meeting.
Write the profile you’d want to reply to, then cut it by a third.
Part 06
Write your own in twenty minutes
Make a cup of tea and jot down three things you love doing, one thing people are surprised to learn about you, and what you’d like to happen next — a date, a flirt, a bit of fun. Turn those notes into four or five sentences, written the way you’d say them out loud. Then finish with a question someone could answer in a line.
Read it back as if you were a stranger. Would you message this person? If not, add a detail or a joke. Good dating profile examples UK-style sound like a chat at the bar rather than a press release, so don’t be afraid to sound like yourself, regional quirks and all.
When you’re happy, make your free Naughty Seniors profile, add your photos and take the free blue-tick ID check, which lets people see you’ve confirmed who you are. Then let the daily match suggestions roll in, and try your brand-new closing question on someone who catches your eye.
